Causes Of Hyperacusis, When Normal Sounds Are Perceived As Too Loud




The Brain Might Over-Compensate Hearing Loss Or There Can Be Previous Problems Like Tinnitus




Hyperacusis is a condition consisting of a decreased tolerance and increased sensitivity to sounds not considered loud or uncomfortable. Some of these sounds are children’s screams, machinery car horns, and bus brakes. This can even lead to avoiding social and public situations, resulting in anxiety and public isolation. Even though there is not a clear cause, there are theories, such as head injury, hearing loss over-compensated by the brain, and pre-existing hearing problems, such as tinnitus, among others.
